Competition for children artists; Prize: trip to Disneyland
The 11th International Biennale of Children’s Artistic Expression (11th BUDI) organized by the Cultural Centre of Pančevo and the citizens’ association BUDI, invites children up to 15 years old to submit their works by April 20th. This year’s slogan and the competition’s theme is: “CIRCUS – WHERE MIRACLES ARE AT YOUR FINGERTIPS”.
This year’s Pančevo Biennale for preschool and primary school children is titled “Circus–Where Miracles are at Your Fingertips!”. The topic was chosen to spark children’s imagination, creativity and expression and connect them to universal symbols of play, art and unity. The circus, with its vibrant worlds, jolly clowns, daring acrobats and mesmerizing big tops, has long been a place where miracles are possible and everyday worries are temporarily forgotten. Children, who are always receptive to wonders and dreams are perfect creators and bearers of this magical spirit.
But the circus is more than just play. It is a symbol of life, with all of its struggles and delights, and a place where various people come together to create art, spread joy, and have their moment in the spotlight. That is why this year’s Biennale employs the circus as a metaphor for children, art and life in general.
Lightning Crinfolion, a mythical creature who assists kids in making the world better, more just and more beautiful, landed at the First Biennale like a superhero from a far-off planet. From its inception to the present, it triumphantly glided through clouds, dazzling fireworks and skies above Cuba, Hungary, Japan, Sweden, the United States, Great Britain, Denmark, Israel, Italy and Germany. This year, it will assist us in showcasing the history and modern art of France, our festival’s guest-host.
Art is like a circus - it is a place where everything is possible and miracles happen. There, a child can become a magician and a toy can become an artistic creation. Children know how to shape their dreams into art, so participate in the 11th BUDI Competition and maybe you will be the one to win the festival’s grand prix, the “Lightning Crinfolion”, which will take you and your travel companion to Disneyland in Paris - Walt Disney’s dream come true. We know an artist lives within you, so make sure to enter the 11th BUDI Competition and compete in the following categories:
- BUDI PAINTER Show us your circus experience with a drawing, image, collage, illustration, comic, or paper craft. Imagine colorful circus tents, acrobats balancing on a tightrope, clowns and magical creatures. (Inspiration: Marc Chagall, known for his dreamlike and bright paintings featuring circus scenes).
- BUDI STORYTELLER Write a story or poem inspired by life under the big top. Imagine what happens behind the curtain, or describe your perfect circus. (Inspiration: Imagination is everything. It’s a preview of life’s coming attractions — Albert Einstein. How would your circus wonderland look like?)
- BUDI PERFORMER Show us your circus spirit through dancing, acting, or acrobatic performance. Record a short video of your mini-performance or choreography and share the circus magic with us. (Inspiration: Contemporary artists such as Philippe Decouflé, whose performances combine dance and spectacle and bring an original approach to the performing arts. What is your method for presenting circus magic?
- BUDI DESIGNER Design circus costumes, masks, sculptures and props. Create your own universe under the circus tent by building a miniature circus out of various materials such as paper, clay, cardboard, or even natural elements. What does your little circus look like? Design an ecological circus out of recycled or natural materials - use old fabrics, leaves, twigs, or anything else that is not harmful to nature to construct your vision. (Inspiration: Jean-Paul Gaultier, renowned for his avant-garde and dramatic designs. How do you imagine circus clothes?)
- BUDI FILM Create a short film or video inspired by the circus. Whether it’s a tale, a music video, or a documentary, show us the circus from your perspective. (Inspiration: François Truffaut’s film “400 Blows”, which glorifies youth and freedom. What does your circus look like through the camera lens?
- BUDI STREET ART Create circus-themed street art, such as a mural, stencil, pixel art mosaic, or sticker. We will install your work in specified public places in the city and digitize it so that it may be accessed via QR codes.
